This first section is meant to get a user up and running as quickly as possible. It touches 2 y# b7 o G! J, i& c k& E
on multiple topics that are detailed later, and is meant for application and a quick understanding.

The last portion of Getting Started covers analyzing results, which is an integral part of
( z. r3 j0 {+ E3 v) Fentering constraints. One can't enter core timing or I/O constraints without being able to read the
" E9 X8 ^2 L( R+ v* ^% c4 j" Ganalysis reports, so it is recommended to read that section in conjunction with the information at

Quartus Setup
" l: O. ?+ W6 v6 k+ g1 B- U" t Within Quartus, there are a number of quick steps for setting up your design with ( _- H' }' [8 N1 @: S6 ^* _
TimeQuest. These are accessed through the pull-down menu Assignments -> Settings: 3 h) y* ~" o y! y( n

1) Along the left panel, select Timing Analysis Settings and select the "Use TimeQuest…" radio
9 B$ M; n' x# ^9 t/ N$ g- O8 x; w; qbutton. The Classic Timing Analyzer is the old timing analysis engine, which is not 5 C$ a' b& ]( ]1 r# R( z
recommended for any new designs or architectures, and will eventually become obsolete.

* a/ }/ ^; V8 X, x% f6 n1 b# n5 [2) Select TimeQuest Timing Analyzer in the left panel. The screenshot should look like below, , q! O/ R2 x' g" C( y3 Y1 x
whereby the user can add a new SDC file. SDC stands for Synopsys Design Constraint, which is
9 ?$ r' Y1 r& s3 q7 I0 u- m8 u) o9 sthe format TimeQuest uses, along with many other tools. If no .sdc file exists, we will create it 8 B S0 q0 d' g+ [
in the next section. Note that SDC files are analyzed in the order listed, top to bottom. 7 ?5 H! Y `6 M+ H. j G2 V3 w
